The Reinhold Lipinski house was built in 1898 by Józef Lipinski, a Warsaw entrepreneur. In the course of the last 120 years, the centre of Warsaw has shifted and the house now stands in the very heart of the city. It terminates a particularly well-preserved contiguous block of tenement houses along Al. Jerozolimskie, constructed between 1880 and 1913. The block begins with Hotel Polonia and ends next to the modern Marriott Hotel. The Reinhold Lipinski house is one of the few surviving examples of neo-Renaissance architecture in Warsaw. Situated on the corner of Al. Jerozolimskie and Emilii Plater Street, close to the main communication hubs (a metro station and the Warszawa Centralna railway station), reputable hotels and office buildings, it is an important landmark and an impressive edifice.
In 2005, the neo-Renaissance house was purchased by a Swedish developer, Reinhold. Ruling out its demolition, Reinhold decided to restore and revitalise the historic building.
The Swedish developer recognised and appreciated the architectural merits of the house, as well as its significance for the history of the city. Though renovation work has not yet begun, for the past four months the ground floor rooms have already provided a venue for the Lipinski Gallery, sponsored by Reinhold. Once the building is fully restored, the ground floor and the first floor, as well as the covered courtyard, will be adapted for commercial use. The remaining four storeys will be turned into exclusive office space. The whole building will be carefully renovated to preserve its original architectural form.
